Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says he is eager to lead the Forestry Commission in applying for a World Bank grant to carry out a reforestation project throughout Ghana.
“I am confident that the Bank will accept the proposal. We will defend the idea to receive the grant,” the King of the Asante Kingdom said.
On July 11, 2025, His Majesty made this revelation during a courtesy call by the Forestry Commission’s 11-member Board. He also reaffirmed his unwavering support, if the Commission is willing to fulfill its job.
Otumfuo said the reforestation project will give the vast majority of the nation’s unemployed youth jobs.
“There are teeming unemployed youth in the country. We can employ them to undertake reafforestation in the depleted forests. If galamsey pays, reafforestation must pay too.”
The Commission’s visit was intended to introduce the King to the members of the company’s board.
