He talked about how watching the comeback victory nearly made his blood pressure spike, but in the end, they won, and it gave Nigerians hope and pride.
In addition, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu praised the athletes’ passion, self-assurance, and unwavering faith on the field, calling them “role models and shining beacons of courage and excellence.”
The tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, thanked the President for the honor and gave a moving statement dedicating the title to Nigerian girls who have high dreams.
Nigeria Make History With 10th WAFCON Title Triumph In 2024
On behalf of the 36 state governors, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum promised each player and technical staff an extra ₦10 million (about $10,000) through its chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. This brings the total state-level contributions to approximately ₦4.95 billion and reinforcing the scale of support across the country.
This recognition ranks as the largest prize package ever awarded to the Super Falcons in their 27-year history, significantly raising the bar for athlete welfare and national recognition in Nigerian sports history. It also reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting women’s football, sports development, and youth empowerment.
