Cardiff City Is Claiming A Big Compensation For Their Premier League Demotion

Premier League side Cardiff City is demanding £104m in compensation from Nantes’ over Emiliano Sala’s unfortunate death in 2019 in a plane accident after analytics organization calculated Argentine’s goals could have kept them in the Premier League.

According to reports, they want compensation for their Premier League demotion.

In the most recent portion of the long fight in court between the two clubs over the Argentine striker’s shocking passing, L’Equipe are revealing that Cardiff want damages for the relegation they subsequently suffered from the Premier League.

The single-piston engine Piper Malibu aircraft that was transporting Sala to Wales crashed off Alderney in the Channel Islands after Cardiff had agreed to pay £15 million for the French club.

According to L’Equipe, Cardiff presented a £104 million invoice to the Nantes Commercial Court on Monday. This figure is based on data analysis that shows they had a 54.2 percent chance of remaining in the top four with Sala.

Analytics FC was hired by the team to figure out how many goals and points Sala would have scored if he had played for them in the second half of the season.

Cardiff brought a French legal and financial expert named Maurice Nussenbaum into the case. He claims Cardiff lost approximately £104 million without him, which includes money lost as a result of their relegation and “reputational damage.”

After finishing third from bottom in the Premier League and two points from safety, Neil Warnock’s Cardiff were relegated in 2019.

Although it is unknown whether Sala’s goals would have kept Cardiff up, he was anticipated to perform well in the Premier League and scored an average of a goal every three games for Nantes in the French league.

Cardiff initially argued to FIFA that they were not responsible for the £15 million transfer fee because Sala was not listed as their player at the time of the crash. Thusly, they kept the first portion of £5m because of Nantes.

However, FIFA ruled that the transfer had been completed and placed a transfer embargo on the Bluebirds because they had not paid for it.

That was just lifted back in January after owner Vincent Tan settled up on the money completely to Nantes last July after Cardiff failed in efforts to get the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) to topple FIFA’s decision.

By pursuing the case through the French legal system, Cardiff now hope to reclaim the £15 million fee and significantly more.

Tan recently told L’Equipe:

‘I am very angry. We have no choice, we will not stop. We were never able to use the very promising player that we had bought. Emiliano Sala could have scored the few goals that would have saved us from demotion to the Championship.
This resulted in a loss of £100m, at least, for the club. With Sala, we could have been maintained [as a top-flight club]. He didn’t play a single game for us. Why should we pay for his entire transfer? FC Nantes must be punished.’
