Employees at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) will have immediate, free access to medical care starting on September 1, 2025.
Hospital workers will no longer have to pay for services up front and then request refunds under the new arrangement, which many staff members had characterized as inconvenient and costly. Instead, they will be able to get care simply by presenting their staff ID cards.
The program, according to KBTH management, is a component of continuous efforts to enhance employee welfare, raise morale, and guarantee that healthcare providers themselves receive prompt medical attention.
Over the years, worker unions have voiced concerns about the welfare of Korle Bu, Ghana’s top teaching hospital, especially in relation to healthcare expenditures. It is anticipated that this new policy will greatly lower employees’ out-of-pocket costs and enhance the hospital’s reputation as a preeminent organization that values the health of both patients and staff.
