Report MoMo Fraud Immediately To Secure Your Funds- Godwin Tamakloe

Godwin Tamakloe

MTN Ghana’s Senior Manager in charge of Mobile Money, Godwin Tamakloe, has called for a stronger crackdown on the growing menace of mobile money (MoMo) fraud in the country. He expressed deep concern about the rising incidents of scams that continue to deprive unsuspecting customers of their hard-earned money.

According to Mr. Tamakloe, MoMo fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated, making it even more important for both regulators and telecom operators to step up efforts in clamping down on the syndicates behind such crimes.

“We need a collective approach in dealing with MoMo fraud. The fraudsters are becoming smarter, but together we can outsmart them. Customers also have a huge role to play in protecting their wallets,” he stated.

Mr. Tamakloe urged MTN customers to take swift action whenever they suspect or fall victim to fraud. He emphasized that time is critical in securing funds once fraud has been detected.

“Whenever you receive a suspicious call or SMS, or if money is withdrawn from your wallet without your authorization, do not waste time. Place a call to our customer service immediately so that the funds can be blocked and the fraud traced,” he advised.

The MTN executive further warned against disclosing personal details such as MoMo PIN codes to third parties, noting that fraudsters often exploit ignorance and fear to trick people into giving away sensitive information.

Industry experts have long argued that while telecom companies continue to tighten security systems, customer vigilance remains the most effective line of defense. MoMo fraud, they say, not only affects individuals but also undermines confidence in the mobile financial ecosystem which has become the backbone of Ghana’s cashless economy.

Mr. Tamakloe assured customers that MTN is working closely with security agencies and regulators to track down fraudsters and safeguard digital financial services. He also encouraged customers to take advantage of MTN’s fraud awareness campaigns which educate users on how to identify and avoid common scams.
