Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics and a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described the upcoming 2028 elections as a “watershed moment” for the party.
In a recent interview on Hello FM in Kumasi, Agyapong emphasized that the NPP’s return to power hinges on the party’s willingness to confront internal truths and empower its grassroots members in leadership decisions.
He stated,
“The NPP can only come back to power in 2028 if we tell ourselves the truth and allow the base to decide who leads the party.”
This underscores his belief that genuine introspection and democratization within the party are crucial for its future success.
Agyapong’s remarks come amid broader discussions about the NPP’s direction and the importance of unity and inclusivity. He has also criticized the exclusion of former executives from decision-making processes, advocating for a more inclusive approach that values the insights of experienced party members.
As the NPP looks ahead to 2028, Agyapong’s call for reform and grassroots empowerment highlights the internal challenges the party faces and the steps it may need to take to regain political momentum.
