The African Games is scheduled to begin in Ghana from March 8-23, 2024. Africa and world is anticipating an interesting sporting festival.
A total of 49 member countries of the African Union will be taking part in this big event as they have all affirmed to be participants.
However, Cape Verde, Senegal, Sao Tome and Principe, Sudan, and South Sudan are the five nations that are yet to announce their participation in the Games.
The nations that have affirmed their support include: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo, Burundi, Focal African Republic, Cameroun, Chad, Popularity based Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Central Guinea and Gabon.
The remaining nations are the Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
However, in order to ensure the event’s proper organization, participating nations must submit the list of all their athletes and team data by February 25, 2024, 23:59 (GMT).
The African Games will feature 23 competitive sporting events, including athletics, badminton, cycling, and wrestling, among others. The African Games will also serve as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris for eight sports disciplines.
The competition will also feature 16 additional sports, including weightlifting, swimming, basketball (3×3), and football, showcasing the diverse athletic talent from across Africa.
Five other games, including e-sports, martial arts, and scrabble, will be seen as showing sports, offering a brief look into elective athletic pursuits.
From the 49 nations that have been confirmed, over 3,500 elite athletes are anticipated to participate. The event vows to be a festival of sportsmanship, talent, and solidarity across the African continent.
