Dr. Bawumia Had The Special Honour Of Meeting With Pope Francis

Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday (24 April, 2024) visited the Vatican. He was there as part of his working visit to the Republic of Italy and the Vatican State.

This milestone meeting brings to light Ghana’s obligation to reinforcing ties with the global community and cultivating discretionary relations on a global scale.

The meeting occurred in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, where Dr. Bawumia had the pleasure of meeting with Pope Francis.

Dr. Bawumia’s trip to the Vatican, accompanied by the Second Lady Hajia Samira Bawumia and other government officials, exemplified Ghana’s commitment to collaborating with world leaders on pressing issues.

Dr. Bawumia and Pope Francis discussed strengthening diplomatic ties between Ghana and the Vatican during their meeting.

The conversations were heartfelt, solidifying the good relations between the Holy See and Ghana.

During the meeting, a lot of attention was paid to collaboration in areas like education and healthcare, as well as the political and socioeconomic landscape of Ghana.

The focus of these discussions was Ghana’s determination to advance its socioeconomic development and cultivate partnerships with international stakeholders in order to accomplish common objectives.

Dr. Bawumia spoke with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, in addition to Pope Francis.

The strong ties between Ghana and the Vatican were strengthened by their discussions, which also looked into ways to work together on a variety of issues that were of mutual interest.

The exchange of viewpoints on current international issues, particularly the security challenges facing West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea, was a major component of the discussions.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, the Vice President is expected to return to Ghana.
