Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has revealed that he once held talks with Ghana coach Otto Addo and some top officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about a possible switch to represent the Black Stars.
In an interview with Ghanaian journalist Saddick Adams, Nketiah’s family disclosed that the discussions took place some time ago, but he was not ready to make the move at that point because he had not yet fully established himself at his club.
“Yes, I spoke to the Ghana coach and some people from the GFA,” Nketiah said. “At the time, things at Arsenal were still uncertain. I needed to focus on settling in, getting consistent playing time, and proving myself at club level before thinking about international football.”
The 26-year-old forward, who was born in London to Ghanaian parents, has long been on Ghana’s radar. The Black Stars made several attempts over the years to convince him to switch allegiance from England, especially before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Despite the interest, Nketiah eventually made his debut for England’s senior team in October 2023.
But according to Nketiah’s family, the player is now settled and at 26, he is matured enough and ready to “give his very best” if Ghana calls now.
According to the source, the player has Ghana blood running through him so his “identity is unquestionable”— and he’s open to playing for Ghana now.

However, his comments to Saddick Adams shed light on the timeline and thought process behind his decision, suggesting that he genuinely considered the Black Stars before committing to the Three Lions.
“It wasn’t an easy choice. Ghana means a lot to me and my family, but at that stage of my career, I had to go with what felt right for me professionally,” he added.
Nketiah has since continued to play a squad role at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, contributing in both domestic and European competitions.
