University Of Ghana Installs A New Electronic Access Control Systems To Enhance Security

Access control points (ACPs) have been installed at the traditional halls of residence as well as the University of Ghana Computing Systems in a significant move to improve campus security.

This installation is part of University of Ghana’s new electronic access control systems, which are designed to increase safety and security. This move is to guarantee the safety of students and the staff of the school.

The electronic access control systems were introduced by Persol Systems Limited, a software development and systems integration firm.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo said that the commissioning ceremony in Legon Hall was important because the University has been dealing with safety and security issues recently. She expressed that the electronic access control system had been long overdue, but she was excited about the new technology.

In addition to Legon Hall, all of the other traditional halls, Balme Library, and the University of Ghana Computing Systems have implemented systems of a similar nature.

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor, expressed gratitude to the Persol Systems Limited team for their unwavering dedication to completing the project. Her appreciation was also stretched out to the student body headed by the SRC for their readiness to help, by contributing towards the project.

She said that this aligns with one of her Key Strategic Objectives, which is to “create a sense of ownership and commitment among students, faculty, staff, and alumni, in order to promote creativity and innovation.”

She also expressed gratitude to the Electronic Access Control Implementation Committee and other important stakeholders for their efforts to guarantee the project’s success.

The establishment of the electronic access control systems is one of the actions by the executives to address issues on security and wellbeing of the University community.

As indicated by Mr. Benjamin Cobblah, Administrator of the Electronic Access Control Execution Board of trustees, it required 24 weeks to convey the electronic access control systems.

In a month, the enrollment of the official UG Student ID card into the system will be completed and fully operational to facilitate easy passage.

Additionally, the Electronic Access Control Implementation system has an anti-trap feature for safety, which will cater for the physically challenged. One more key element is the incorporation of CCTV cameras at the Porters’ Lodges for monitoring.
