Deputy Finanace Minister Responds To Dr. Bawumia’s ‘Interesting’ Dollar Remarks

From Left: Thomas Nyarko Ampem and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Nyarko Ampem has responded to recent comments by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia regarding the Ghanaian cedi’s performance against the US dollar.

In an interview on ‘Joy News’, Mr. Ampem emphasized that the current government’s approach focuses on tangible results rather than slogans.

“We are delivering without shouting,” he stated, contrasting the administration’s actions with what he described as the previous government’s reliance on slogans.

Mr. Ampem emphasized that the recent increase in the value of the cedi is evidence of the government’s successful economic management. He credited disciplined public financial management, a rise in inflows from gold, cocoa, and remittances, as well as coordinated monetary and fiscal policy, for this achievement.

The creation of the Ghana Gold Board, which the Deputy Minister called a “game changer” in the country’s economic environment, was also cited as a major factor in the stability of the cedi.

These statements were made in reaction to Dr. Bawumia‘s assessment of the cedi’s performance, which Mr. Ampem feels ignores the significant economic-strengthening initiatives carried out by the current administration.
