Through a strategic cooperation with the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), talks have started to firmly establish the University of Ghana (UG) on Ghana’s tourism map. The goal of this partnership is to establish the Legon campus as a recognized tourism attraction that highlights its academic, historical, and cultural legacy.
The Chief Executive Officer of GTDC, Prof. Kobby Mensah, emphasized the necessity of a systematic framework to incorporate Legon within Ghana’s tourism offerings during a recent stakeholder meeting.
This initiative will help diversify the experiences available to both local and international tourists,” he noted, assuring that GTDC remains committed to providing both technical and financial support to make the project a reality.
Ghana’s Most Popular Tourist Attractions
The plan was supported by Dr. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, UG’s Director of Public Affairs, who noted that it may distinguish the university as a top destination for cultural and educational tourism.
“Through this initiative, Legon could become one of the rare university campuses in Africa to be officially included in national tourism policy,” she said.
The collaboration highlights the University’s initiatives to improve communication with important stakeholders and support creative approaches to resource mobilization and visibility building.
