
Coach Kwesi Appiah, has successfully led Sudan to the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024. Sudan advanced after defeating Algeria 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the quarter-finals at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on August 23, 2025.
The match saw Sudan take the lead through an own goal by Algeria’s Ayoub Ghezala in the 48th minute, with Algeria equalizing via Soufiane Bayazid in the 73rd minute. Goalkeeper Mohamed Abooja was the hero, saving two penalties in the shootout, while Walieldin Khidir, Mohamed Ahmed Saeed, Ahmed Tabanja, and Mohamed Tia Asad scored for Sudan.
Sudan, who are unbeaten in the tournament, had previously topped Group D, notably defeating Nigeria 4-0 and drawing with defending champions Senegal. They are set to face Madagascar in the semi-final on August 26, 2025, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
